The Artist & Her Journey

Nicky Hunter is a professional watercolour artist based in Buckinghamshire. Her creative foundation was built initially gaining an art & design Diploma at Telford College, followed by studying at De Montfort University, where she earned a degree in Textiles & Surface Pattern Design. This education launched an illustrious twenty-year career that took her across India, China, and Europe in search of the luxurious silks and evocative fabrics that inspired her work.

From Couture Design to Fine Art Painting

Nicky’s career began in the bridal industry as an embroidery designer, where her intricate floral patterns - crafted with lustrous threads and beads - gained recognition in leading fashion magazines and on television. Her expertise soon expanded into interiors, where she collaborated on high-profile projects for palaces, theatres, and film productions, earning multiple industry awards.

Later, as a print designer for iconic brands like Laura Ashley and Jacques Vert, Nicky refined the illustration and colour skills that now define her fine artworks. In 2018, she returned to her first love: painting. After intensive fine art mentorship in 2020 to evolve her signature "romantic realism" style, her work gained national gallery representation and a widespread following.

A Creative Sanctuary & Mentorship

Today, Nicky operates from her studio at Westbury Arts Centre in Milton Keynes, a tranquil "hidden gem" and home to a vibrant artist collective. Since 2017, she has been a dedicated educator, hosting workshops in Westbury's sun-blushed drawing room and at prestigious art schools across Buckinghamshire, Northamptonshire, and Oxfordshire.

As a sought-after guest tutor and residential course leader throughout the UK, Nicky is passionate about helping others "blossom creatively." Whether teaching local regular classes or hosting national art societies, she brings the same professional insight that once fuelled her international design career to every student.
